Christmas Candle and Meme
For my third entry in the 2006 G.I.F.T. Challenge, I read The Christmas Candle, by Max Lucado. This was a touching, short story about faith and miracles. Every quarter of a century an angel visits a candle maker’s family, touching a certain candle and miracles happen.
While very short, this was a great little Christmas story that provides more meaning to the season than the usual stories. Max Lucado remains one of my favorite authors for his style of writing and the depth and insight he gives to everyday life.

Six Weird Things About Me
1. I alphabetize all my books, movies, and CD’s. It’s nice to always be able to find what I’m looking for when I have such a great number of them. Though I get easily perturbed if I find one out of order.
2. I can watch Christmas movies in July. I love them. Doesn’t matter what season it is.
3. I am the pickiest eater. Ever. I give new meaning to the term “high maintenance.â€Â
4. I have the moniker “SciFiChick†and the domain name. Doesn’t get much geekier than that.
5. The first portrait I ever drew was back in 6th grade. I drew it from a tv guide, a picture of Leonard Nemoy as “Spock†from Star Trek. Yes, I still have it.
6. For a 29 year-old, I have so many things wrong with me that I feel like I’m falling apart. No, I’m not a hypochondriac. The most recent diagnosis from yesterday: Gastritis and Hiatal Hernia. At least I don’t have to have another surgery.

I hear you on the falling apart thing. I’ve been diagnosed with more things since I turned 30, than I had previous to that. Who becomes lactose intolerant at age 32?? Crazy.

Same here with the falling apart. Due to having babies I have pinched some nerve so that when I lift weights at the gym I cannot extend my triceps without passing out. That and I can’t stay up late any more … I am always tired. Partying days are over.
I did a portrait of Gates McFadden from a First Contact poster I had when I was a teen. Star Trek Rocks, and so does Daniel Craig.

Max Lucado is great. It has been several years since I have read anything of his but I enjoyed what I have read. He really has a way of making one’s relationship with Jesus very personal and real.
That’s really cool that you still have that picture that you drew.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but am really glad that you don’t have to have surgery. Will keep you in our prayers.

I love the idea of Christmas Candle. I’ll have to see if my library has it.
I’ll bet my son-in-law could beat you in the pickiest eater contest.
I had a hiatal hernia years ago. Then I read from a women’s health book how to fix it with deep breathing exercises. It worked.

I used to have a user name of SciFiPoet, then I went back to my normal monicker of Jedimerc… much more nerdy I think. I read a lot of scifi myself (quite naturally) but I haven’t read as much lately (unless you count alternate history)
