Lost Calling

Since Tuesday night is a slow TV night, I just read all evening. I finished up Lost Calling, by Evelyn Vaughn. This is the first in the Madonna Key series and falls into the category of romantic suspense.

Catrina Dauvergne is a museum curator who finds herself in the midst of an earthquake in Paris, France. When she falls into a fissure, she discovers special artifacts among bones dating back 200 years. When she touches the artifacts, she has visions of the women who owned the pieces when they were alive.

But while Catrina and her friends try to uncover this 200-year-old mystery, others are after Catrina to stop her or kill her. With plenty of romance and plenty of suspense, this was a fun break from what I usually read.

My major complaint is that the artifacts found, were never described thoroughly enough. I could never picture in my mind the Black Madonna’s, and probably have more education in the arts than most!

I’m also halfway through Eldest, by Christopher Paolini. It’s been a little slow, but still engaging.

  1. Sounds like an intriguing book. Too bad she’s not more descriptive of the artifacts, I love all that stuff. I’ll have to think further about adding that to my TBR list.

Right now I started Just One Sip by Katie McAllister and two other authors. It has three short paranormal vampire stories in it. Katies story is called BRING OUT YOUR DEAD. She’s so funny.

  2. Does sound like an intriguing story. I have that problem too though – I’m terrible at describing things! Terrible! Maybe the author needed some of your expertise in the arts to really GET IT. Sometimes I find (And I might be WAY off in the case of this author) but if you write about something you don’t have a passion for or completely understand and see… then it comes across this way in their righting. 🙂

  3. 🙂 I just read my own comment. Dear God! I don’t know what the heck is wrong with me? In their own RIGHTING? 🙂 I have no comment on my writing abilities.

  4. Lost Calling sounds very intriguing. And I really need to read Eragon. Since I’ve now seen the movie, I want to know if everyone’s disappointment was justified. (I thought it was good).

I sent some books to a soldier stationed in Iraq a few months ago. Great cause!

  5. this sounds kind of neat. I might have to pick it up. and I like that series ok (bombshell) they usually have pretty good stories.

and thanks for the books for soldiers link, I’m going to go check it out.

  6. LOL at Vicky! I’ve done the same thing.

It sounds like a good book. Great link for the soldiers!

Oh, and I like the sci fi meme of Carl’s. Might have to steal it. I don’t care about awards either.
