Book Review: Hounded

Hounded: The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne

Atticus O’Sullivan may look 21 years old, but the last living Irish Druid is actually 21 centuries old. Atticus currently resides in Arizona, but has lived most of his life in hiding from a Celtic god, from whom he stole a powerful sword. But the angry god has finally tracked him down. And he will stop at nothing to take the sword from Atticus.

Atticus may be an old soul, but he acts more like his 21-year outside appearance. He’s funny, quick, smart, brash, and completely underestimated. Atticus is a fantastically fun character who I quickly fell for. From his special relationship with his dog to his devilish sense of humor, it’s nearly impossible not to like him. Hearne’s world incorporates old mythologies and religions into modern day. The characters are as vivid and exciting as the story.

This fresh-faced urban fantasy is the first in a back-to-back series, releasing three novels in consecutive months. Hounded certainly took me by surprise. Full of action, suspense, humor, and magic – fantasy fans will not want to miss this excellent series debut. I loved every minute of this fast-paced, thrilling fantasy.
