Check out the official trailer for Syfy’s newest science fiction thriller, Helix below. Starring Billy Campbell (The Rocketeer, Enough, The 4400), Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost, Revenge, The Wolverine), Lucianna Carro, and Neil Napier – Helix follows a team of scientists trying to investigate a mysterious outbreak. The show is set in Antarctica, giving it a somewhat claustrophobic feel and the added danger of no escape outside from the outbreak. Being set in Antarctica, the investigation is not controlled by any one country. Instead, it’s a privately funded research station, thanks to Hiroyuki Sanada’s character Dr. Hiroshi Hataki. And we’re told that there will be some romantic triangles and entanglements. Dr. Alan Farragut (Billy Campbell) and his brother Dr. Peter Farragut (Neil Napier) will have tension because of an ex who happens to be on the station. And Star Trek fans will be happy to see Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager, Body of Proof) make a guest appearance as Constance Sutton over several episodes.
I was able to visit the set last month and it’s very impressive. You can stand in the control room and see labs on either side. And most of the doors are like something out of Star Trek. At times it felt eerily real – maybe because it’s not set in the distant future. I’ll be sharing some of my photos and videos from the set soon. I’m very excited about this upcoming show. Helix premieres January 10th at 10/9c and comes from Executive Producer Ron Moore (Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica remake), Lynda Obst (Contact), and Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files).
