Fantasy Book Review: Grimm: Aunt Marie’s Book of Lore

Grimm: Aunt Marie’s Book of Lore

Synopsis:
This in-universe book explores the monsters, weapons and potions in Grimm with detailed pictures and descriptions. The book is Aunt Marie’s recording of the supernatural creatures she and her fellow Grimms have to defeat!

Inspired by the classic Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales, Grimm is a cop-drama with a twist! A detective discovers he has the ability to see supernatural beings, including a reformed ‘Big Bad Wolf’ and the witch-like Hexebiester, along with many others.

Review:
Grimm is one of my top favorite shows right now, so I had to get my hands on this book. Like the books that Nick Burkhardt consults when he comes across a new Wessen in the show, Aunt Marie’s Book of Lore lists and gives detailed accounts on a variety of Wessen and weaponry. This is a full color, over-sized paperback with color photos, illustrations, and hand written notes (in a variety of languages, mostly German and English) throughout. The Wessen Index lists over 50 species, but many are crossed out. And only those that aren’t crossed out are referenced in the book.

Not much info is listed that isn’t covered in the show, but it’s a creative book that immerses the reader in the world of Grimm in a fun, new way. The drawings and notes looks like they come right from Nick’s book – down to the yellowed pages and blood stains on some. I recommend this for fans of the show who can’t get enough of the Grimm lore. And it makes a great gift for this time of year as well.
