City of Bones

City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare, is the first in a proposed trilogy for young adults.

When Clary and her friend attend a teen dance, Clary sees something frightening. A group of teens kill a young man. But the body immediately disappears. And Clary finds herself discovering a whole new world that she never knew existed.

The Shadowhunters, as the trio calls themselves, slay demons. And normal humans aren’t supposed to be able to see what they do. But Clary isn’t a normal human. And when her mother is abducted, Clary finds herself involved in a Shadowhunter war, with time running out for her and her mother.

This book was an incredibly enjoyable surprise. In this world, “all the stories are true.” Meaning, the stories about werewolves, vampires, and other things that go bump in the night are all real. With smart-aleck, teenage characters, scary adults, and even scarier bad guys; you never know when the next twist in the story will be revealed. Though some of the revelations are predictable, the larger, more important mysteries are exciting and well-worth the build-up. With intense action scenes, big mysteries, amusing characters, and a little teenage angst; this book should be a lot of fun for teens and adults alike. Fans of Harry Potter or vampire slayer books will probably enjoy this one.

  1. This one sounds interesting to me. I like the cover!

Actually the comment on the cover from Holly Black reminds me I need to read some of her work too.

  2. Thanks for the link!!! That was really great of you!

So what do you think about Clary and Jace? Do you think they really are… well I hate to spoil it so I won’t type it. Things could always change!!! But then the author said she was going to kill off one of her main characters!!!

    ahhhh! the drama! 🙂

  3. I loved this book, and am happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed it too; it seems everyone either loves it or hates it. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next two books. 🙂

  4. Quixotic – I love the cover too. It’s one of the main reasons I picked it up!

    Mel – I think you’d enjoy it.

Katie – No problem! And.. let’s just say Jace is probably my favorite character. So.. I’ll let you draw that conclusion.. Man, we’ll have to email about it or create a post just for spoilers!

Court – I did see a few reviews on Amazon of people who hated it. But I was really glad to be one of the ones who loved it!

  5. I know! It makes the whole end of the book. I wanted to talk to her about it but I didn’t want to include spoilers in my interview. 🙁

I like Jace too! I think he is one of the best characters. But i think that Simon will be the one to die… maybe… it could be Jace and then Simon has to comfort Clary!

I can’t believe it is going to be a whole year before the next book!

  6. I really like the sound of this book. After having collected all of the Harry Potter books (and with that coming to a close – cry!), I’ll need something else to occupy my summer evenings. Good find!

  7. Hi! I really enjoyed the book to… I just really wanna know what happens relationship-wise between… Well a certain blonde and a certain redhead ::whistles:: I cannot say anymore but.. well- ::is all jittery:: I DESPERATELY NEED TO DISCUSS THIS BOOK WITH SOMEONE!!!

  8. Oh Okay then!
    SPOILER ALERT!!

Oh I really hope they fix this whole brother/sister thing between Clary and Jace. I really love them as a couple and would be devastated if the series ends without them being together. Or worse…. Clary and Simon ::shudders:: Sorry Simon fans but I really love Clary/Jace!! Ohhh I hope something favorable for ClaryxJace happens…. And that Jace sprouts wings. I want that to happen for some strange reason that I cannot explain… Hmm…
