Box Review: Bam Box – September 2017

Bam Box

The Bam Box was founded in 2015 by Bloof, the same team of geeks, comic book lovers and pop culture collectors that started ComiconAuction.com. We love collecting. We love the thrill of it, the mystery of it and especially that feeling you get when you have a collectible in your hands that you are really excited about. So we set out to bring something different to everyone.

There are some great subscription boxes on the market, but we felt there was still something missing. We went to the drawing board with the goal of creating the box we would want to show up on our doorstep. After a lot of ideas and prototypes we arrived at the Bam Box. From the design of the box to the items inside to the instant winners we send out, we accomplished what we wanted to do: give you the subscription box we would be jealous of.”

Cost: 1 month plan starts at $24.99 plus $7.99 s/h

Bam Box

The box comes with a nice mini mag, describing all of the included items.

Bam Box

Space Ghost Pin and Watchmen Patch

Bam Box

Signed BB-8 Photo – These are signed by actor Brian Herring who worked as the droid performer in the recent film. It’s a very cool image that I’ll probably keep and display.

Bam Box

Goonies Doubloon – I wonder if One-Eyed Willy cursed this?

Bam Box

Defenders Art Print – I’m a fan of the Netflix show and love these characters. I received a rare, 1-up version in black and white. But it’s a shame as the color version looked cooler.

Bam Box Bam Box

Deadpool Replica Mask – Just in time for Halloween! Fans of the wise-cracking anti-hero will love this spot-on Deadpool mask.

Summary:
Besides the pin and patch filler, I think I’m keeping all the items in this box – which rarely happens! I really like both of the prints – especially BB-8. And the Goonies Doubloon and Deadpool mask replicas were the highlights for sure. This was probably one of my favorite boxes from Bam Box so far!

Teeblox

Back to the Future Shirt – I love Back to the Future, and I love this design. My biggest reservation is that there’s a note to hang dry rather than tumble dry. So, it’s obviously not pre-shrunk. If it’s too wrinkled, I still may toss it in my dryer on low.

Teeblox

Comic and Pin – The Sheena comic will be passed on. And I think I’ve gotten this pin before.

Summary: I like that this month’s shirt was Back to the Future and incorporating both the catchy phrase and the DeLorean. It’s not soft or pre-shrunk though.

Box Review: Smuggler’s Bounty – September 2017

Smuggler's Bounty

“Star Wars and Funko are proud to present Smuggler’s Bounty, the only OFFICAL Star Wars subscription box in the galaxy! Featuring 100% exclusive collectibles, apparel and accessories from the Star Wars universe, each box is carefully curated for Star Wars fans and shipped directly to your doorstep. Every box is themed specifically around the Star Wars films with collectors in mind. For just $25 (plus shipping) every other month, members will receive a box full of exclusive Star Wars-themed Funko collectibles and a host of other surprises valued at over $50. Each box will focus on a different part of the Star Wars universe and include memorabilia exclusive to the program, perfect for any Star Wars fan.”

The theme this month was Jedi!

Smuggler's Bounty

Patch and Pin – these are small collectibles included in each box.

Again this month, there was no card detailing the items included.

Smuggler's Bounty

Star Wars Young Luke Skywalker Tshirt – Yet another black tee. And it’s not a great rendering of Luke.

Smuggler's Bounty

Plush Yoda – This is really cute. I don’t collect the plush dolls, but they are cute!

Smuggler's Bounty

EXCLUSIVE Obi-Wan Kenobi – I only have an older Obi-Wan, so this younger version is nice.

EXCLUSIVE Aayla Secura – Here’s a more obscure Jedi from the prequel films. I don’t care for those, so I barely remember her. But it’s still fun to have a different looking POP, instead of all humans.

Summary:
I still miss the detail card about the items included. This was another great 2 Funko POPs in a box month! Both characters were from the prequel films that I didn’t care for. But there were way more Jedi’s to choose from in those films!

Bam Box

The box comes with a nice mini mag, describing all of the included items.

Bam Box

Futurama Pin and Superbad Prop Replica – These are tosses for me as I don’t collect pins, and I have no desire to ever watch Superbad.

Bam Box

Tara Reid signed Shark – Ok. This is a creative and fun item from the Sharknado movies!

Bam Box

Witcher Dog Tag Prop Replica – I have never heard of Witcher, so I had to look it up to discover it’s a game. Not surprising. It’s a really nice, heavy medallion. A very nice replica for fans of the game.

Bam Box

Joker Print – This was one of two options. Subscribers could have received another print of Batman in an ancient Chinese style instead.

Ghostbusters 2 Patch – I recognized this painting as soon as I saw it, as I’m a fan of the Ghostbusters films.

Summary:
Bam Box has done away with themes, and I don’t think they’ll be missed. This was a fun variety of items from a variety of genres. Bam Box excels at their unique items. And the signed Shark and medallion prop (despite not being a gamer myself) were the highlights of this mystery box.

Teeblox

Star Wars Shirt – I this is a fun Captain Phasma design. And it’s a pretty blue color that I love.

Teeblox

Comic and Sticker – The 1994 Superman comic will be fun to read. I’m not sure what the sticker is from?

Summary: I love the shirt color this month – anytime it’s not black, I’m happy! I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it, as it’s a nice soft quality too.
If you need to replenish your geek wardrobe with nice quality tees, look no further.

Bam Box

PriMates Pin

Bam Box

Prop Replica Wolverine Dog Tags – These are really cool, nice heavy tags. I’ll be keeping these.

Bam Box

Thundercats Patch
Hogwarts School House… um, I’m not sure what these are… It’s a cute pin-like emblem on a leather patch. There’s nothing on the back. So it’s a paperweight? Just an emblem? I’m not sure. Hufflepuff for me!

Bam Box

Death of Gwen Stacy Print – This is a very cool print. There was a black & White variant too, but I prefer this color version.

Bam Box

Greg Cipes Signature (Beast Boy) on Teen Titans Go – While I love the Teen Titans comics, I don’t care for the cartoon at all. My nephew does though, so he’ll enjoy this.

Summary:
This was kind of a slim box, not much to it. I liked the Hogwarts emblem – just not sure what it’s use is. And the Wolverine dog tags were a nice addition.
Also, there was a vote, and this will be the last box with a theme. They don’t want to be limited about what can be included, so no more themes going forward!

Box Review: ThinkGeek Capsule – July 2017

ThinkGeek Capsule

From the site:

Cost: 1 month plan starts at $24.99 plus $5 s/h

*SciFiChick.com received a box for review purposes.

ThinkGeek Capsule

The box comes with a list of spoilers that I skipped until I went thru the box on my own.

ThinkGeek Capsule

Because pins seem to be the norm in most mystery boxes.

ThinkGeek Capsule

The BONUS item I received this month was the 12th Doctor Pocket POP! Keychain. There were 2 possible Doctors I could have received.

ThinkGeek Capsule

Game of Thrones Mini Canvas – I’m not a GoT fan, but I know I’m in the minority. These are cool and unique collectibles, if you are a fan.

ThinkGeek Capsule

Vulcan Travel Guide and Hulk Poster and Colored Pencil Set – The Vulcan Travel Guide is my favorite item in the box! And the value is almost as much as the box price, so subscribers are getting a great deal. The cute colored pencil/poster set will be a great gift for my nephew!

ThinkGeek Capsule

ThinkGeek Promo Code – This is a great idea to get people to go buy more stuff from the site! Mine have been for the minimum $5 each month so far.

ThinkGeek Capsule

Dungeons and Dragons Tshirt and matching Patch – This is a cute, unique design if your a D&D fan. And a large, matching dice patch, if you’re a collector.
(Heads up for the ladies – the sizing is Juniors, so you may want to order 2 sizes larger if you’re older than a teen.)

SUMMARY: This was an even better 2nd box! There seemed to be higher value items in this box, despite fewer items. And I enjoy the variety of geek culture. I’m excited to see what the next Capsule holds!
