2006 G.I.F.T. Challenge

Carl has issued a 2006 G.I.F.T. Challenge.

My choices to review will be:

1. Santa Claus 3: The Escape Clause
2. The Holiday
3. The Christmas Candle by Max Lucado
4. Christmas Letters by Bret Nicholaus
And probably a few others…

And on the subject of Christmas, quite a few blogs have been doing a Christmas Tag. It’s been fun to read everyone’s answers.
Christmas Meme:

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Both, though a little Egg Nog goes a long way.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
His elves wrap them. He knows how to delegate.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White. Looks much classier.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
I would, but there’s no point this year. Unless I meet someone pretty fast!

Tuesday Movie Meme

Came across this movie meme today:

1. Total number of films I own on DVD and video.
I’m not at home, so this will be a wild guess. Maybe between 100-130 (movies only, not including tv on dvd).

2. Last film I bought.
Special Edition of X-Men 3

3. Last film I watched.
The Wild, while I was babysitting on Saturday. I loathe cartoon movies.

4. Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order).
Not that these mean a lot to me, but I can watch them over and over without getting sick of them:
X-Men (1-3)
When Harry Met Sally
You’ve Got Mail
Back to the Future
White Christmas
(I love watching Christmas movies any time of year.)

5. If you could be any character portrayed in a movie, who would it be?
Hmm… maybe Lois Lane from Superman Returns. That would be rough, trying to choose between Superman and Cyclops. Poor woman.

On second thought, I’d want my own powers. So make that Sue Storm from Fantastic Four. She has the coolest powers of her team.

TV Meme

Found this meme at http://www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/167.

1. How much space is left on your Tivo or DVR box?
Around 45 hours out of 100.

3. What was the last TV show that you all watched before reading this message?
Last night, I watched episodes of Simon & Simon.

4. List 5 shows you won’t miss.
Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, The 4400, The Dead Zone, Psych, Heroes, Lost, Smallville… yes, more than 5.

5. Name 3 people to whom you will pass this stick.
Whoever wants it.

Another Book Meme

Total number of books owned:

Probably around a thousand… maybe two.

Last book bought:
Actually, the last book that I got was free! I won Rogue Angel: The Spider Stone on Gena Showalter’s blog.

Last book read:
The Artifact, by Kevin J. Anderson.

Five books that mean a lot to you:
1. The Bible. Of course, it’s more than just a book.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis. This series has been a favorite since I was a child. And not only are they wonderful stories, but powerful Christian allegories as well.

3. When God Whispers Your Name, by Max Lucado. I read this in high school, and it had a powerful impact on me and my walk.

4. The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. My favorite book of all time. My favorite passage from the book:

5. The Nancy Drew series, by Carolyn Keene. I have always loved to read. But when I started reading these in grade school, it took my passion to another level. They had a strong female role model, fun mysteries, and there was always a happy ending.

Heroes Update:
Make sure you check out this week’s online graphic novel for more on Niki’s husband D.L., who can obviously walk through walls (and handcuffs). It looks like Niki’s “Hyde” persona might be responsible for the killings and framing of her husband.

Comic Meme

I saw this meme on a random blog and thought it too fitting.

Comic Book Geeks Unite:

1. Which comic company is your favorite?
Marvel. No question. X-Men, Spider-Man, and Runaways have some of the best stories. While I love a lot of the DC characters, I just can’t put the stories and villains on the same level.
2. Whose is your favorite character(s) and why?
X-Men. There is a vast assortment of mutants with various powers, so there are always new and fresh stories to tell. And some of my favorite are the most unique mutants such as Nightcrawler, who looks like a demon but actually is a strong Christian. The best example to judge someone by their appearance.
3. Do you prefer villains or heroes?
Heroes definitely. Though great villains help to make great heroes.
4. If you could be any comic book character who would you be?
Wonder Woman. I grew up idolizing her, telling people in the nursery that my name was Diana Prince. I now say that at least I reached her height!
5. Comic Books to Movies: Do you prefer it when the movie sticks to the comic story line or strays off with their own creative license?
I much prefer when the movie sticks to the comic cannon. Same with any other book made into a movie.

Halloween Meme

Taken from Carl’s Halloween meme:

1. What is your favorite work of horror fiction?
The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova.  See my review here.

2. What is your favorite work of science fiction/fantasy?
This one is hard as science fiction is my favorite genre. I’ll have to list several:

Area 51 series, Robert Doherty (Bob Mayer)

Rogue Angel: Destiny, by Alex Archer

Noble Dead series, by Barb and J.C. Hendee

-Most of the Star Trek: TNG books by Michael Jan Friedman, Peter David, etc.

3. Who is your favorite monster?
Dracula. I’ve always loved books and movies about vampires.

4. What horror movie gives you the most chills?
I don’t watch a lot of horror, but The Ring was the scariest movie I’ve seen.

5. Freddy versus Jason?
No thanks.

6. What is your favorite Halloween treat?
Most candy that comes in chocolate form.

7. Ghosts or goblins?
Ghosts. Nothing better than a creepy ghost story, especially this time of year.

8. What is your scariest encounter with the paranormal?
None. Though after watching The Ring with some friends and being left at my house alone, I had to watch Angels in the Outfield to get my mind on something feel-good instead of demonic.

9. Do you believe in ghosts?
Nope. Though I do like watching Ghost Hunters and haunted house shows on the travel channel.

10. Favorite Halloween costume?
That I’ve worn in the past: Rogue and Supergirl.

That would be fun to wear in the future:
