Box Review: Nerd Block Classic – August 2015

image1

Nerd Block Classic “contains licensed merchandise, hand-picked by our team of uber-nerds representing all genres from movies, television, video games, internet, and more!” The price is $19.99 plus shipping per month.

The theme of this box was Summer Mix Tape.

The box comes with a nice card that give an overview of the items in the box.

Exclusive Ghostbusters T-shirt (Retail $10-20?) – I LOVE this shirt. The made the whole box for me. The artwork is fantastic, and I really dig the comic-book feel. Ladies, the shirts are very fitted. So order a size or two larger than normal.

image9

Ghostbusters Lunch Box (Retail $10-15?) – This ghost trap look is really clever, and opening it to find this Slimer was really fun.
Ghostbusters Stuffed Slimer (Retail $10-15?) – This exclusive Slimer plush looks more like a character from a musical kids show that haunts me. And unfortunately, it doesn’t stand on its own. But I do love Slimer, so Lois Lane may get another stuffed chew toy.

Awkward Family Postcards (Retail $9.95) – Yes, I’ve seen most of these from the popular website. But they’re hysterical. I’ll be sharing these with friends.
Rubik’s Cube Stress Ball (Retail $5-10?) – This inspired little item is already sitting on my desk at work.
A Coaster of Kings (Retail $1-2?) – These are cardboard, dragon art coasters that fantasy fans will appreciate. I have too many coasters as it is, so I’ll be passing these along to someone else.

Summary: This was a fantastic first box for me! I’ll definitely be continuing with this subscription. The shirt and uniqueness of the curated items were a big hit. The value is hard to determine on most items, since most were exclusive items to Nerd Block. But the value definitely exceeded the box.

Finally, I’m super excited for the next box! Don’t miss this one!

In honor of the upcoming movie, I picked a Star Wars theme for my first box! There are a lot of themes, and some change. You can buy just one box or pick a subscription of the same theme.

Chewbacca Funko Pop! (Retail $10-12) – I had this on my wishlist, so this was a great score!

Star Wars Power of the Jedi Lando (Retail $10-15) – This reminds me of the Lando toy I got as a child, and yes, still own. But this one has nicer detail, a gun, a cloak (my old one is long since gone), and a “Force File” detail on the character.

Millennium Falcon Ice Tray (Retail $17.99)
Star Wars Playing Cards (Retail $5)

This was a great value for the price. I signed up for a 3-month Marvel subscription, and now am even more excited to see what’s coming!

ComicCon Box #4: August 2015 Review

image1

ComicCon Box is “a premium monthly box service that brings everything Comic Con to the doorsteps of fans.” The price is $29.99 plus shipping.

image2

The Fourth ComicCon Box arrived earlier than their website stated it would, so I was really excited about that. Most of the geeky boxes that I’ve looked at all ship at the end of the month. The theme of this box was Science.

image8

The box came with a nice card that describes most of the items in the box. I see how the shirt correlates to the theme, but everything else was a bit of a stretch. Hey, it’s all science fiction, so who cares? I loved this box.

image3

How to Make Your Alien t-shirt (Retail $10?) – I love this shirt, both funny and Alien-themed!

image4

Funko Pop! Colossus (Retail $8-11) – This was on my wishlist, so I was very happy to score this one.
Two Sets of UFS Cards (Retail $5? each) – Not a gamer, so I’ll be passing these along.
Portal 2 Keychain (Retail $10.91 on Amazon) – Cute, my nieces or nephew will enjoy this little gun.

image5

Daken Dark Wolverine: Vol 1 Empire Graphic Novel (Retail $19.99) – I love Marvel comics, so this was another win for me.
Live Long and Prosper Sticker Set (Retail $5?) – So awesome. I will definitely use these.
Rocket & Stitch Print (Price ?) – I don’t collect prints, but this one is pretty nice. I’m thinking my nephew or nieces may want it framed in their room.

image7

Gods & Titans Print (Price ?) – The artist is obviously talented, but this one isn’t my taste or style.
Civil War #1 Variant (Retail $4.99) – Since I just got a Variant edition in my Geek Fuel box, I’ll probably be getting rid of one of them.
SpeedRunners Game Download (Retail $14.99) – Windows only game, so useless for me. May run a giveaway for it, if a family member doesn’t want it.

All-in-all, this was a fantastic first box for me. Looks like I’ll be sticking with this one. The value was quite a bit over the price. And the shirt, Funko, and graphic novel alone just about came to the price of the box.

And just a heads up, the Box Five/September Box Theme is…
