Nimoy In. Shatner Out.

According to SciFiWire:

Original Star Trek star William Shatner said in a video interview on his ShatnerVision Web site that co-star Leonard Nimoy may be in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek movie—but not Shatner.

“There’s a Star Trek movie, and I called Leonard,” Shatner said in the video. “I said, ‘Leonard, have you heard?’ He said, ‘Yes, I have.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘I’ve read the script.’ I said, ‘Is it a good script?’ He says, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Am I in it?’ And there was a pause. He said no, and then he began to laugh. I went through the phone as I grabbed him by the throat. He’s in it. I’m not in it.”

It’s unclear what role Nimoy may play. Abrams, who is directing the film, is expected to announce casting at Comic-Con International later this month in San Diego.

To hear that Nimoy approves, makes me feel a little better. But I’m still wary…

  1. I’m still very wary about this one as well. I simply don’t see how they can make a prequel with these characters and it not just be stupid in the extreme. I’d much rather see them do a totally new Star Trek movie. I’m open and willing and hoping to be proven wrong.

  2. Ya, I was wary too. Going back … I don’t know about that. Why couldn’t they continue on from Nemesis, or do a Voyager movie. I would like a Voyager movie. Here’s my vote for Voyager.

  3. Star Trek needs new blood. I think that revisiting Kirk in his youth might be interesting, but not what will relaunch the franchise. Trek needs to tell stories about multiple ships. Kind of a Captains Log approach. Tell a story arc, then move on to a new crew for the next story. If it takes 3 episodes to tell, it great. If it takes 12 great. Vary the story length to create depth. Vary the cast to keep it interesting. They can even tel stories about different races. How about a story from the Romulan point of view?

  4. I wonder if Nimoy is “in it” in another capacity?? Advisor, etc?? And it’s a shame Shatner isn’t in it. I’d love to see Capt Kirk just once say “BUT WHY?” (!)
