Book Review: Paranormalcy

Paranormalcy

Paranormalcy, by Kiersten White

Though only a teenager, Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA). She has the unique gift to see through glamour and see the true being beneath, whether it be werewolf, vampire, or something else altogether. One night, the agency is infiltrated by a mysterious, young shape-shifting boy. And Evie finds him particularly fascinating. But when it seems a murderer is targeting paranormals to hunt down and murder, Evie isn’t sure who to trust.

Evie is a fun, smart, and sassy lead character. It’s easy to love her. While other characters remain mysterious, as the narrative is from Evie’s point of view. White has created a fascinating world where countless paranormals live everywhere, yet most are undetectable save for Evie’s gift.

This is a fantastic new young adult urban fantasy that will appeal to adults as well. While it’s a coming-of-age story, mixed with a bit of romance and angst, Paranormalcy is also a mystery full of magic and adventure. Twilight and other young fantasy fans should not miss this exciting series debut.
