Author Guest Post and Giveaway: Chris Howard’s NIGHT SPEED

Chris Howard joins today to talk about what super power he would chose to have and what he would do with it…

Pick your own super-power!?

If I could have any super-power at all?! Whoa. For a long time, I’d have said “flying”. Kinda obvious… but, come on, flying! How awesome?! But we all kinda know how that would work. So I’m gonna mix it up and say the super-power I pick is… the “ability to freeze time”.

I’d love this. Heck, I’d never run late again! Well, I would run late, because I always seem to push it so I can get more things done before I set off wherever it is I’m trying to go, but now I’d just freeze time, and go zipping through the static world (on my bike, I guess, or I could just walk because there’d be no hurry). That’s the beauty of this super-power… there’d never be any hurry. At all.

So let’s think about this…

First of all, it’d be good if I didn’t age while I was doing the whole “freezing time” thing. That way I could take a whole year “out of time” if I wanted, maybe write a book, or just kick back and relax, and then, when time clocked back in and the world came back to life, I’d still be the same age, just like everyone else.

Second of all, let’s say that if I’m holding hands with someone when I freeze time, they get to hang out with me. Because that would be way more fun.

Third of all, think how crazy good I’d be at pretty much every sport imaginable… I’d just freeze things for a second, while I get in position, then I’d outrun or out-move the opposition, no problem at all. I’d probably be great at poker, too, since I could sneak a peek at everyone’s card and I use this resource all the time to find the latest poker-related games. However, sneaking around is no way to play poker. People don’t have to be invisible to play. Anyone can play poker well if they really tried. There’s nothing stopping me from going onto to find some recommended casino websites, allowing me to perfect my skills online. If I really wanted to be good at poker, I could just do that! However, I’m sure that being invisible would give me an advantage. Perhaps in the meantime going to take a look at some of the best online casino games would help, but even so! And of course, I would be great at robbing banks, if I was that way inclined… Not that I am!

But I’m just using my snazzy super-power for selfish gain. Did I learn nothing from Peter Parker’s dear old Uncle Ben?! With great power comes great responsibility, so I have to step things up. I’d need to be vigilant for any sort of crime or disaster happening in the world, then I could freeze time in order to get to that place the bad thing is going down so I could get people to safety. There’s no limits, when you start to think about this… I mean, say there’s a plane that’s gonna crash – I could freeze time, learn how to fly a helicopter and then fly up to the plane that is now just hovering there in the sky, perfectly still, and I could do some sort of tricky evacuation of the people onboard the plane (or maybe I could FIX the plane while it hovers there! After all, I have as much time as I want, and I could bring some sort of aviation-mechanical-engineer with me by holding her or his hand when I freeze time!)

Okay… So basically, I need a team. A big team. A network of people to keep watch over the entire world and people to fly me places where folk need me and people who have all the various expertise I might need to deal with every possible problem that could arise.

But I only have two hands, so I can only bring two of my team with me each instance I freeze time. And of course, I should also hold the hands of people working on BIG STUFF like cures for diseases and solutions to environmental threats such as global warming and, um, world peace. Those people truly need all the time in the world. And all of a sudden, I have to admit, this super-power that was allowing me to write more books and chill out and never be late again and was setting me up to play in the NFL and the NBA and win a few Olympic Gold Medals, while also striking it rich playing poker (though I’d definitely not start robbing banks, I’d still happily take a look at this article or others alike so it would be possible to take advantage of the bonuses while also having this power)… Is it clear that I like gambling?! Thinking about the possibilities the super-power is kinda stressing me out.

But, hey, I’m saving people. And I’m doing my best… I guess no matter how much time you have, it never feels like “enough” though.

Unless I flip the whole thing on its head and look at time like something I have plenty of, so maybe I don’t need to freeze time at all. Maybe I just need to see the time I do have as a gift…
Hang on…

Did I just give myself a super-power?!

About Night Speed:
Only those young enough can survive the pulse-pounding rush of tetra, a dangerous and addictive new drug that fuels a nine-minute burst of superhuman strength and speed. Alana West has been trained to use the drug so she can pursue the young criminals who abuse its power-criminals like the breakneck who nearly killed her kid brother.

On tetra, Alana is unstoppable. The rush makes her an explosive blur as she surges through New York City, battling to bring down breaknecks before they leave more people dead or injured in their wake. But with the clock ticking down to her eighteenth birthday, Alana will soon be too old for the rush…when just one more dose will prove deadly.

Supported only by her strong and steady handler, Tucker, Alana goes undercover, infiltrating an elite gang of breaknecks to stop the supply of their drug. But when Alana gets trapped on the wrong side of the law, she learns the breaknecks are not quite what they seem-especially Ethan, the artistic boy whose bottomless brown eyes seem to see the truth inside her. With her own dependency on tetra increasing, Alana must decide where her loyalties lie before the rush ends. Forever.
