Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Synopsis:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species (thought to be mere myths) rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
Review:
I haven’t seen the 2014 Godzilla film, but there was a nice recap at the beginning to catch us up. I actually only watched this one because I heard there will be a crossover with King Kong (from Kong: Skull Island) in the next installment of these monster movies. I loved Kong: Skull Island, but this had a much different feel.
I’m not a particular fan of Godzilla, but I enjoyed this film. Where Skull Island was full of suspense and humor, this installment is much more dramatic and intense. These monsters are on a completely different scale. The cinematography and CGI is impressive. And there is a good story beyond just the monster fighting, as well as interesting characters. Millie Bobby Brown was fantastic, of course. The big showdown is over-the-top and a lot of fun. And the post-credit scene made me excited for the next film.
