Fablehaven: Keys to the Demon Prison, by Brandon Mull is the 5th and final book in the Fablehaven series.
Kendra and Seth’s parents have been kidnapped by the duplicitous Sphinx, head of the Society of the Evening Star. And the Sphinx now has control of most of the keys to the demon prison Zzyzx, which he wants to open. But opening the demon prison means the means the end of the world.
In this final installment of the Fablehaven series, siblings Kendra and Seth are separated throughout most of the book. Both face their own epic quests as they try to stop the opening of Zzyzx by any means possible. Along the way, they are reunited with old friends and confidants as well as new mysterious characters. Because of their past experience, neither sibling is quick to trust strangers anymore. But the side of good needs all the help they can get in this seemingly unwinnable war.
Fablehaven has continued to be one of my all-time favorite children’s fantasy series. And this final book finally reveals mysteries and questions that fans have been waiting for. I am a little disappointed that the series has ended, but am very pleased with the way Mull has wrapped up the story. Kendra and Seth have been extremely enjoyable characters. And the world of Fablehaven appeals to people of all ages. With more fantastic creatures, far off lands, and dangerous quests, Keys to the Demon Prison leads up to an action-packed final battle with a satisfying ending to an incredible series.
I am not really a person who reads many books, but I LOVED this one. When I first picked it up, I was glued until the finish. That being said, I have a few hang-ups it.
Firstly, Did Seth make it back to the singing sisters? I remember being 28, then 15, then 10, then 5 pages from the end, all the time wondering, when he was going to complete his mission/ keep his promise.
Secondly, what was the other object? He said a sword (Vasilis), a wraith, and another object of their choice, What is the other object of their choice!!!
Thirdly, Why doesn’t Bracken “kiss the girl” I may be a teenager (so hormones might be slightly tampering with my mind), but I didn’t really like the twilight series. However, I still think that Bracken and Kendra should have kissed. They were the PERFECT couple. (aside from the age thing). And hey, Bracken wouldn’t have to bite her, he could just make her into an eternal.
Fourthly, why do they keep on mentioning Seth’s objects (the tower and such), if he is never going to use them?
On the other hand, I have a few things that I really loved about it.
I loved the way Kendra stormed into battle at the end, and stabbed the demon monster for all of her family and friends.
I thought it was hilarious that Doren and Newel were driving, and got pulled over a few times.
I loved that it always switched off from Kendra to Seth, back and forth.
I liked that it showed that even weak evil will still always be evil.
I liked how Sphinx was just deluded, and not truly evil, but it makes me worried for the future ( if there was another book), he might try and get himself killed.
I loved how it held my attention to the end.
I liked the way Bracken was all suave and told Kendra that what Vanessa said was true.
It was interesting how narcoblixes and unicorns have a hate towards each other.
Overall, I thought it was a really good book.
