Book Review: The Billionaire’s Curse

The Billionaire’s Curse

The Billionaire’s Curse, by Richard Newsome

Gerald Wilkins is a young teenage, Australian boy who’s life turns upside down when his estranged aunt dies, leaving him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But Gerald also received a letter from his aunt – that tells him that she was murdered. And it’s up to Gerald to find the killer and unravel the mystery behind a recent diamond theft.

While Gerald is a good kid, thrown into an overwhelming situation, his parents are nothing like him. They let the money and fame go to their heads and dump Gerald the first chance they get with the hired help. But Gerald quickly makes friends with a completely likeable set of twins – Ruby and Sam, who are an integral part of his adventures.

Everyone’s a suspect in this whodunit for middle readers. With loads of suspense and odd characters, this mystery had me on the edge of my seat. From the British Museum in London to creepy underground caverns, Gerald and his friends investigate his aunt’s murder, the missing diamond, and the legend of a priceless diamond casket. But this is more than a simple theft and murder. Gerald’s family has a secret past. And this first installment in the series only scratches the surface of the overlying arc of that mystery. Not to be missed, this fast-paced, adventure is complete fun from start to finish.
