Tracking the Tempest, by Nicole Peeler
Halflblood-selkie Jane True has been training and developing her unique abilities. But when Jane and her boyfriend Ryu are attacked during a romantic weekend in Boston, she feels woefully unprepared. The killer is powerful, extremely fast, and a halfling as well. As Jane and Ryu investigate the deaths surrounding the halfling, things don’t add up. It seems there may be another player in the field, one with darker motives.
Jane is growing more confident about herself and her abilities. Though I was not exactly a fan of Ryu, he slowly started growing on me, despite the abundance of new-relationship-terms-of-endearments. They’re a hot couple; but it’s blatantly obvious that they’re not compatible for a real future. I was glad to see the direction Peeler took with the relationships. It’s very easy to get caught up in the lives of her fictional characters.
This was a solid sequel from every point of view – great character development, another suspenseful mystery, and a continuation of an overlying story arc with only a mild cliffhanger. No lulls here, the story is action-packed and fast-paced. With steamy romance, lots of laughs, and an abundance of excitement and mystery – I was once again left wanting more. Thankfully, the next installment is scheduled for release less than 6 months from now. Don’t miss this fantastic paranormal romance series by a talented new writer.
