Book Review: Unleashed

Unleashed by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie

When her mother dies in a tragic accident, Katelyn McBride is sent to live with her grandfather in the Ozarks in a small town called Wolf Springs. Katie had dreams of becoming a dancer back in LA, but stuck in this small town Katie will have to start over again – at a new school, finding new friends and trying to re-forge a relationship with her elusive grandfather. But after brutal murders of a couple local girls, Katie realizes that there is something more to her grandfather’s warnings to stay out of the woods. And when Katie is attacked by a wolf with blue eyes, her whole world will come crashing down.

Here, there be werewolves. If it wasn’t evident by the town’s name. First in a new trilogy, this young adult fantasy will appeal to Twilight fans. There isn’t a lot of action, but plenty of drama and suspense as Katie slowly learns about the town and its mysterious residents. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of romance, heartache, secrets, and monsters. There are the beginnings of an interesting love triangle. And a mild cliffhanger ending, left me eager for more. Dark and exhilarating, this gripping tale held me till the very end.
