“The ZBOX is a monthly geek box themed around your favourite geeky interests and will include a variety of items tied to a monthly theme. Each month you will be sent a box containing over $50 worth of exclusive, licensed merchandise. Perfect as a monthly treat or a gift for your geeky friends!”
When I saw a deal for a free Welcome box and free Bonus box with the purchase of a new one-month box, I signed up – especially when I saw the theme was MUTATE!
Each box comes with a nice booklet describing what’s included and more.
*My box arrived with the tape ripped, so anything could have been taken from the box, but nothing seemed to be missing.
Hulk Disney Infinity Figure (Retail $13.99) – I don’t play Disney Infinity, but my nephew will definitely get a kick out of this fun figure.
X-Men Apocalypse Tshirt (Retail $10?) – Notice it matches the design on the inside of the box! While it’s a nice design, it’s not something I’d wear. And I’m an X-Men fan. The colors and lack of recognizable characters are a miss for me. Not to mention – another black shirt.
Fabrikations Raphael (Retail $19.99 – $10 on Amazon) – This was the best item in the box. It’s rare that a mystery box contains a Fabrikations collectible. And everyone loves TMNT.
X-Men Season One Graphic Novel (Retail $24.99 – $10 on up on Amazon) – I have several of these Season One releases, but this is surprisingly one I didn’t have yet!
The Welcome box and Bonus box shipped separately from the Mutate Box – actually weeks earlier.
First the Bonus box, which was a theme from months ago – Killer.
Even the mini mag was included.
Mars Attacks Patch – Filler for a movie I didn’t care for.
American Psycho Business Card – Funny, but more filler that I’m not sure anyone would keep.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Graphic Novel (Retail $14.99) – This was my favorite item in the box.
Deadpool #1 Comic (Retail $1) – This is a classic Deadpool comic. I didn’t see it listed in the magazine, so it may have been an extra bonus.
Star Wars Boba Fett Mug (Retail $14.18 on Amazon) – This is a fun coffee mug of a favorite character.
Chucky Plush (Retail $21.19 on Amazon) – I’m not a horror fan at all, so this will be tossed.
The Shining Tshirt (Retail $10?) – Thankfully, the magazine stated where this was from, as I’ve only seen the movie once and would have no clue what this stood for otherwise! Another miss for me.
Next up… The Bonus/Welcome Box…
Small Marvel 2016 Calendar (Weren’t these free at Comic Book stores?) – Filler. Who needs a calendar in June (when this shipped)?
Zombie Apocalypse Heat Change Mug (Retail $7.59 on Amazon) – This is a pretty funny novelty gift for zombie-lovers. But it’s a miss for me.
Pixel Bricks Racing Car (Retail $5? – the Amazon price is jacked up) – This is a really generic, no-frills car that my nephew will probably assemble once and toss aside.
New X-Men Volume 1: E is for Extinction Reprint (Retail $10?) – This COULD have been my favorite item in the box, but I already had this graphic novel. Bummer.
ThunderCats Hologram – Filler.
Mars Attacks Patch Duplicate filler that I got in the box above.
Space Hopper Poncho (Retail $15+ on Amazon, which is ridiculous for a cheap, plastic poncho) – Guessing this is a British thing? I have no idea. It’s weird, and I definitely wouldn’t wear it out in public unless desperate!
Summary: I’m glad the bonus boxes were free! I definitely would’ve been mad to have spent money on either. The Mutate box was a bit of a disappointment as well. But all 3 boxes for the price of 1 was good. It made up for none of the 3 being really impressive.
