Sanctuary’s Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne Q&A

sanctuary_season2Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne star in Syfy’s Sanctuary, returning with new episodes Friday, April 15.

Do either of you have a favorite moment from shooting these remaining episodes in season 3?

Robin Dunne: The great thing about the second half of season three is that all the things that the team – the Sanctuary team – Magnus and the Sanctuary team have gotten into in the first half really, really become back to the ramifications they have to deal with in the second half. And it’s really quite a roller coaster ride the second half.

I think if I had to pick a favorite moment, we have an episode coming up that is the biggest episode we’ve ever done scope-wise, story-wise, everything. And it takes place in the past, back in World War II, and it was a really special episode to shoot. It’s quintessential Sanctuary thinking outside the box.

When we were on set shooting those things with tanks driving around, it was really quite an experience. So I guess if I had to pick one, I love every single moment, every waking and sleeping moment that I have on Sanctuary. But if I had to pick one, I think it’d be from that episode.

Amanda Tapping: Yes. The episode is called Normandy, and there was just something very special. There was an interesting vibe on set when we shot it. And the look is very different, but it’s a really cool episode.

What have been the biggest challenges working on Sanctuary?

Amanda Tapping: Well, I had to direct Robin Dunne in an episode called One Night. I’m just going to stop there.

Robin Dunne: And I think my most challenging moment was being directed by Amanda. I mean, she’s just a sadist. She made me do 750 takes of something once, just out of pure…

Amanda Tapping: Because we had the time.

Robin Dunne: Yes. She made me sing Hot Blooded in front of the entire crew for no reason. It was just to humiliate me. It’s really been a challenge.

After three seasons, what is it about your characters that you still find interesting?

Sara Creasy Interview and Giveaway!

Author Sara Creasy joins SciFiChick.com today to discuss her latest release Children of Scarabaeus.
…And keep reading for a chance to win a copy of her novel!

Can you tell us a bit about the plot of Children of Scarabaeus in your own words?

The story takes up where Song of Scarabaeus left off: Edie needs to get to the Fringe worlds, where she has something that will help the people there, but she gets captured along the way. She is recruited back into her mentor/nemesis’s terraforming project that she’s certain will turn out to be highly destructive – so much so that humans across the galaxy may end up with nowhere to live in a few generations. She also discovers that gifted children are being used for the project, and she wants to help the children avoid the life that she’s had.

Her bodyguard Finn, who is “leashed” so he’ll die if he leaves her, is along for the ride. The two of them have a growing attraction and the relationship progresses in this book. It’s hampered by the fact that Edie’s emotions cause him discomfort, because of the leash, so they are always looking for a way to deal with that. And, of course, a way to escape.

Are there more novels planned for the series?

There’s always a chance I’ll want to go back and continue Edie and Finn’s story but I’m writing something else now.

Can you tell us more about biocyph, and how you came up with the idea?

Q&A: Being Human’s Sam Witwer

Keep reading for a Q&A with Sam Witwer (Aidan the vampire) from Syfy’s Being Human. Sam reveals more about the show and his love of science fiction and fantasy!

How do you feel Aidan stacks up against the other current vampires on TV and in film?

Oh, you’re going to be very disappointed in me, sir. I have not seen the other vampires. I don’t know what they’re doing. I haven’t seen any of the shows. I haven’t seen any of the Twilight Series. In fact, someone said, “Hey, so you guys sparkle?” And I’m like, “What?” “Do you sparkle?” I’m like, “What do you mean, do we break into dance numbers and use jazz hands? What do you mean?” And they’re like, “No, like the vampires in Twilight.” And I’m like, “I don’t know what that is.”

So, really if – I don’t if I have an original take in it. I heard from a few people that I kind of do, but I’m just kind of crossing my fingers and doing my own kind of unpolluted take on the vampire thing. Because really the last real exposure I’ve had to it is Béla Lugosi from back in the day, and that movie I’ve seen a lot of.

But, that’s it. So this is my take, and so I guess if I got it wrong it’s entirely my fault.

So how does Aidan walk around in the daylight?

Well, it’s uncomfortable, but it doesn’t necessarily harm him. The way that we play it out is, and I think I actually – I talked to Sally about this in, I think, Episode 3, but I – the vampire is just like every living thing on this planet have evolved that early on they may have been Nosferatu or one of those early on visions of the horrible pharaoh vampire, and as they’ve gone on they’ve adapted.

And so yes, they can actually walk around, but they don’t necessarily like it, which is why you see our vampires wear sunglasses a lot in the daytime. It isn’t that we’re trying to look like we’re in the Matrix, it’s – we actually need them.

Aside from being on a show as a vampire with a werewolf and a ghost, do you have any actual supernatural interests?

I’ve always been fascinated by supernatural mythology, definitely; ghosts and such. But, I mean I don’t know that I necessarily believe in them, but I certainly love reading about it. It’s really, really fun. Then, in terms of my interests in terms of genre stuff, I have a broad variety of interest when it comes to genre television and film. I’m a hardcore Star Wars guy, love Star Trek, love all that stuff.

You’re obviously known for doing The Force Unleashed video games, and then recently the Son on The Clone Wars of Star Wars. Do you prefer SciFi over fantasy?
