City of Souls, by Vicki Pettersson, is the 4th book in the Sign of the Zodiac series.
Joanna Archer is a superhero and the prophesied one to bring balance to the zodiac. Part of a group of powerful agents of light, she fights the dark and evil agents, who are led by Joanna’s father. Following the events in the last book, a child is left wounded and dying, because of Joanna’s actions. In order to heal the child and find answers for herself, Joanna must travel to an unknown world with its own dangers.
In this latest installment, Joanna faces her hardest decision yet. And a betrayal from within her troop will hit her hard. Secrets begin to unravel. And Joanna changes a lot, not only physically, through the course of the story. Pettersson has created not only a fantastic world of superheroes and mythos, but great characters as well. Even the good guys are jaded and conflicted.
With even more suspense, mysteries, and intensity, City of Souls was impossible to put down. And the climactic ending left me truly surprised and itching to see where Pettersson takes us next. As I’ve said before, superhero and urban fantasy fans should not miss this incredible series.
