Review:
This new series follows the Merrick brothers. This first installment concentrates on the youngest brother Chris and his love interest Becca. Becca has an undeserved reputation of being easy. Now she keeps boys at a distance. Chris is reckless and impulsive, which isn’t smart when there are other boys out to hurt him. And Chris feels a pull towards Becca, ever since the night she saves him. Hunter is quiet and confident and purposefully pursues Becca. This love triangle is not clear cut as Hunter seems like the better choice at first. But Becca can’t get away from Chris’ trouble when it soon follows her as well. Chris and his brothers are dangerous Elementals with incredible powers.
This fantasy for young adults will appeal to fans of teen romance and urban fantasy. There is plenty of teen angst (complete with an annoying and selfish best friend) and cool super powers, but they take a backseat to the mystery that slowly unfolds throughout the story. We learn what’s happening along with Becca. Kemmerer’s characters are complex and diverse. And events lead up to a climactic ending with a surprising huge twist. Storm is a dramatic and exciting start to a promising new series.
