I was gradually learning how to be a businesswoman. Had the power suits and shoes down, though the day to day was slow going. Then I was blindsided by Enemies Unknown and sent off to I-don’t-know-where. Not a good thing.
Now not only must my friends and family be frantic, but without a CEO, Death, Inc., can’t function. With the newly deceased left free to roam the Earth, it’s the zombie apocalypse come true.
Review:
Callie is up against someone else who wants her job as Death. In a race against the clock, she must find and stop him before she literally disappears. Meanwhile, she has entrusted Jarvis to keep all of her loved ones safe. The point of view jumps around quite a bit, and was somewhat confusing at first. When the voice is in first person with Callie, we start back in time and move forward to the “present” where events are also taking place with her friends and family. There are also individual stories of people dying that add suspense when their souls are captured by the sinister forces.
The Golden Age of Death is the 5th book in the Calliope Reaper-Jones series. While the chapters seemed choppy at first, it soon came together and helped explain the mystery. My favorite part of this series is the character development – and this one was no exception. From Callie’s boyfriend with a dark past as the Devil’s protégé to a goddess with an attitude – the characters are exceptional and make this urban fantasy series one of my favorites. Full of humor, mystery, magic, and adventure – this latest installment does not disappoint.
