If you enjoyed The Gates last Sunday night, be sure to check out Syfy’s newest original series, Haven, with a very similar premise:
From SyFy.com: Syfy’s all-new one-hour drama series Haven, starring Emily Rose is based on the novella The Colorado Kid from renowned author Stephen King. The series follows the shrewd and confident FBI agent Audrey Parker (Rose) who has a lost past, and arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine on a routine case. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions.
As the townspeople’s dormant abilities begin to express themselves, Audrey helps keep these forces at bay while discovering the many secrets of Haven — including one surrounding her own surprising connections to this extraordinary place.
Haven Premiers July 9th on Syfy, next to the return of Eureka!

Is it just me, or does this seem like the supernatural version of Eureka? Let’s see the parallels:
1) Haven: FBI Agent stumbles upon a secret town
Eureka: US Marshal stumbles upon a secret town
2) Haven: Everyone in the town has supernatural abilities – this is the only Sci-Fi element
Eureka: Everyone in town is a genius (creating seemingly supernatural things) – this is the only Sci-Fi element
3) Haven: The abilities lead to many conflicts and plot issues
Eureka: The inventions lead to many conflicts and plot issues.
I think it’s a cool idea, but the writers will have to work hard to distinguish Haven from Eureka.
-IMP 😉 🙂
I agree.. It’s going to hinge on the character development. If the characters are strong, it may have promise.
I’m looking forward to seeing how they distinguish Haven from others, especially The Gates.
