I’ve kept my thoughts spoiler-free for those who haven’t had a chance to see it yet.
We have spent 6 years getting to know the various inhabitants of The Island. And we’ve spent 6 long years trying to find out The Island’s secrets. Last night was the 2 1/2 hour finale. With plenty of suspense, the focus seemed to be more on the tearful moments of the brief memories of happiness that happened on The Island. I believe that these are some of the best actors on tv. They have taken us on quite a ride. It’s show that wouldn’t have worked without it’s incredibly strong characters.
Granted, the story was great too. But among the innumerable questions that kept coming, the real thing that kept us all watching was what was happening to the characters.
As for the finale, I prepared myself for being disappointed. With this past season slowly unraveling, I could already tell that I wasn’t going to like the ultimate reason behind The Island. But I have to say, I really enjoyed watching every minute of the finale. Watching the alternate reality characters all find each other and remember made the past years seem worthwhile.
What did you think of the finale? Love it? Hate it?
Angry that more wasn’t answered?
For those who haven’t watched yet, you may want to avoid the comments below.
I thought the finale had some great moments, but I was very disappointed in the final twist. I really wanted the sideways world to be an alternate reality and felt kind of cheated out of a happy ending. But I understand why others would feel differently. I went into great detail on my blog!
Kim – Yeah, I was disappointed about the “alternate reality” too. Juliet said that the bomb going off worked.. so we assumed that’s what caused the other reality. A lot of things don’t add up. Maybe I’m too nitpicky, but then, most scifi fans are…
I throughly enjoyed it. Yea, they didn’t answer a lot of questions but they answered enough that I didn’t feel like I’d wasted 6 years. By not answering all of them, they made sure that though the show was over, it would continue to be discussed for a long time. People are going to argue over what they thought the conclusion was. Me, I thought the whole thing revolved around Jack. All the others were simply people that he had met at some time. I think the whole thing was a kind of out of body experience that Jack had as he laid in the bamboo field dying in episode one. It was totally his brain trying to make sense out of what happened.
It ending with his eye closing, pretty much the way it started. I feel that the writers will give us some more answers (if only as a way of promoting the DVD-LOST the total pkg.) Anyway, time will tell.
Lisa – Wow, I didn’t even remember that happened in episode one. I hope that wasn’t what happened tho, since then the writers would have been lying to us all this time. I just wish some of the details would have been explained.
I loved the LOST finale. As a dog person, I really liked Vincent being there for Jack in the end.
Wait for the spin-off where Hurley and Ben (as the new #1 and #2) become the island’s protectors. You heard it here first.
The exchange between them outside the church is the hint.
