Review:
Caesar and his fellow escaped primates have fled to the woods and are just trying to survive and stay away from humans as best they can. But a group of humans are hunting them down, and learning that these apes are far more intelligent than normal ones. Meanwhile, San Francisco is battling the raging pandemic that kills all who become infected.
Firestorm is a fast-paced tie-in novel that takes place between Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. But is more of a prequel for Dawn – as it gives an in-depth backstory for Koba a tortured ape who has learned to hate humans and shows the quick fall of San Francisco into chaos. I wouldn’t say it’s a must-read for fans, as not much happens and not many of these characters will be in Dawn. But it’s a well-written and fascinating read with rich characters, giving a nice (if unnecessary) bridge between the films. I did enjoy it and am looking forward to seeing Dawn even more now.
