SciFi Book Review: The Elite

The Elite by Kiera Cass

Synopsis:
In America Singer’s world, a bride is chosen for the prince through an elaborate televised competition. In the second book of the Selection series, America is one of only six girls left in the running. But is it Prince Maxon—and life as the queen—she wants? Or is it Aspen, her first love?

Review:
America is truly torn between her first love Aspen and the charming Prince Maxon. Her chemistry is with Maxon is fantastic and she certainly goes through emotional highs and lows whenever he’s around. On the other hand, Aspen is her steady rock. She cares for him, but it feels like he’s her backup if things go wrong with Maxon. And it’s hard for the reader to root for him as we have no backstory on him other than he dumps America before leaving to join the military. His main purposed seems to be to create tension when Aspen and America sneak off to be alone together and talk in secret.

Through the course of this emotional installment, America is confronted with secrets, tragedy, intrigue, and lies. The emotional roller coaster with America and Maxon hits a boiling point and their relationship changes drastically. This powerful sequel was captivating and exciting from beginning to end. I love this story and the characters, and look forward to the final installment in this incredible trilogy.
