Sons of Ashgard: Ill Met in Elmgard – Graphic Novel Review

Sons of Ashgard: Ill Met in Elmgard by Chad Corrie and Matt Wendt

Synopsis:
Erick Redfur seeks a new life. Exiled from his homeland he craves a fresh start, but has yet to find it. Hopeful of a better fate in Elmgard he soon finds himself embroiled in a series of troubling events that quickly escalate into a near kingdom-wide war.

Yet even as he attempts a remedy through fast thinking and the aid of some new companions, he risks jeopardizing his chance for a more peaceful future. But in so doing he’ll find his redemption along with new hope for the days ahead.

Full of action, adventure and some comedy and heart, the Sons of Ashgard saga follows a group of adventurous squirrels across a Norse-flavored landscape finding commonality in a bond birthed through mutual struggle and discovery. Each story is stand-alone but also able to tie into a larger narrative woven between tales.

Review:
Sons of Ashgard is a fun fantasy series set in a Norse culture of anthropomorphized squirrels. After being exiled for murder, an unassuming Erick is forced into an adventure and mystery. The cast of characters is diverse (for squirrels) and engaging. And the artwork is amazing – from the sweet to fierce-looking squirrels and every range of emotion. It’s rated 14+ for a bit of violence. But while it has an edge, there is still some humor and heartwarming moments to round out the suspense. It’s a clever and unique world that I completely enjoyed. And the story and his companions was over far too soon. I hope there are more adventures to come in Ashgard.
