Review:
It’s been over 10 years since Book 2 of the Candy Shop War series was published, so it was a pleasant surprise to get another adventure. I don’t remember all of the details from the previous books, but enough to jump right in to Carnival Quest. As before, there is plenty of suspense, mystery, and fun candy with magical properties. The children (mostly) wise to not trust anyone in this new and mysterious carnival. A new student is irritating, as he’s a pompous, social media “influencer.” But Nate and his friends are gracious and welcoming despite his shortcomings. I thoroughly enjoyed the magic and engaging story that unfolds. It’s a fantastic series for middle grade readers with quirky characters and a thrilling, unique world that doesn’t disappoint.
