When Nate and his family move to a new town, he quickly makes friends with 3 neighborhood middle schoolers who induct him into their group. But when the group begins to frequent a new candy shop in town they soon discover the store owner makes special candy with bizarre results. Nate and his friends befriend the candy shop owner with hopes of receiving the strange, magical candy. But as the quests grow more dangerous, the group realizes that the candy shop owner may not be the kind and generous old lady she appears to be.
Brandon Mull has created another suspenseful page-turner that both young and old will enjoy. Nate and his friends are good kids that are thrust into a compromising situation. But in the midst of danger and temptation, they make brave choices. The adults are the dark and mysterious characters whom the children must discern motives and if they can be trusted. Full of humor, magic, suspense, and adventure – The Candy Shop War is an exceptional treat that makes reading a joy.
I agree. Mull’s first Fablehaven book started a little slow for me, although it really picked up by the end. His second was great. And Candyshop wars was every bit as good. I was talking to a representative from Shadow Mountain this morning who told me the third book is coming out in late April.
