Synopsis:
Returned from their adventures on a secret island, Hellboy and the Professor move with the B.P.R.D. from New Mexico to Connecticut.
The relocation is tough on Hellboy: is he just homesick, or have scrambled memories from the island gripped the supernatural whippersnapper? Meanwhile, word of Hellboy’s survival has also reached an unknown enemy, who failed to kill him once before but is determined not be foiled again…
Review:
Assault on Castle Death is the 2nd volume of the Young Hellboy series. I haven’t read the first yet, but had no problem jumping in to this mostly standalone story. I’m a Hellboy fan, and immediately fell for Young Hellboy. He’s endearing and tenacious, and like many young boys – with similar interests and feelings of homesickness that most boys would have. But when a fever dream gives Hellboy an amazing, hallucination-filled adventure – we get true glimpse of the hero he becomes.
Humor and sweet innocence round out the darker, ominous presence of an enemy closing in on Hellboy. It definitely had to be read in one sitting. With plenty of suspense, adventure, and fantastic artwork – I highly recommend this latest Hellboy release. And now I have to hunt down the first installment as well.
