Psych: A Fatal Frame of Mind, by William Rabkin
When Gus drags Shawn to an art museum to help out a former professor, the unveiling of a long-lost masterpiece is accompanied by a posed murder victim. Gus’ old professor is convinced that an ancient cabal is behind the murder and that he’s been framed. But the professor’s conspiracy theories sound more like the ramblings of a crazy person.
Shawn and Gus are two of my favorite characters on television. And Rabkin renders the fantastically, funny duo accurately. Witty banter and pop culture references accompanies all of the characters’ interactions. In the television show, the mystery takes a backseat to the humor and character development. But with novel form, there’s more opportunity to flesh out the mystery. Not only does Rabkin provide funny and suspenseful narrative, but an entertaining mystery as well. Don’t miss the series on television or in print.
