Lifetime’s Blood Ties Looks Like a Hit
I have literally gotten hundreds of hits to this site, in the past couple days, searching for more information on Blood Ties! Everywhere I look, people are raving about it.
So, I finally watched the 2-hour premier based on Tanya Huff’s five-book vampire series, The Blood Books, and I have to admit that it looks promising. Vicki is an ex cop-turned private investigator, who stumbles upon a gruesome murder in progress. The clues point to the murderer being a vampire. Along the way, Vicki teams up with Henry (a vampire himself) to try to descover who’s behind the multiple attacks.
Vicki (Christina Cox) is a fun and unique character. She’s multifaceted: spunky, smart, and sassy, all while dealing with a slowly progressing disability. Dylan Neal’s role as Mike will hopefully be fleshed out in later episodes, because I think the triangle with the two of them and Henry (Kyle Schmid) will help make this show. The vampire Henry is developing into a great character too. Sparks fly between he and Vicki.
While the demon bad guy looked a little too much like Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger, I was happy to see that’s where the cheesiness ended. The special effects were decent for a show on Lifetime.. “television for women.” And since the pilot was based on Tanya Huff’s already successful first novel, of course the story was great. Besides the hint of romance angle, there was plenty of suspense and mystery and a couple fun action scenes.

Oh, I heard about this series but I didn’t know it was based on Tanya Huff’s books. I personally might like it, but I never watch television shows that dictate my time. I am more apt to watch whatever is on when I am bored and turn the tv on for background noise. So, I don’t have ‘shows’. I will be interested to see how this show works out, though. To me, it is on a strange station…

It is a strange station to be on, but with the popularity of paranormal romance right now… I’m not surprised how many women are liking it.
