Atlantis Rising

Alesia Holliday was kind enough to send me an ARC of her upcoming book, Atlantis Rising: The Warriors of Poseidon, written under the pseudonym Alyssa Day. I love the ocean, folklore about the lost city of Atlantis, and Greek mythology. So, it was a no-brainer that I was excited to get my hands on this book.

Alesia/Alyssa has created an amazing world of magic and wonder, incorporating the lost city of Atlantis. Thousands of years ago, Atlantis fell beneath the depths of the ocean. Atlanteans are direct descendants of Poseidon, Greek god of the sea. They possess superhuman powers such as control of the elements, except for fire. The Warriors of Poseidon are Atlanteans that have sworn allegiance to Poseidon and the protection of humanity.

But as old prophecies about the rising of Atlantis seem to be coming to fruition, vampires are also rising in power and strength. There is a rebellion beginning; and shapeshifters and vampires seem to be right in the middle of things.

Besides the incredible action and suspense, Atlantis Rising also has some great characters. Conlan, heir to the throne of Atlantis and all the seven seas, is a broken man. Newly returned to Atlantis after being tortured for seven years by the evil vampire queen, Anubisa, not even Conlan knows if his mind or soul is completely intact. As soon as he awakens, he discovers that power of ascension, Poseidon’s Triton, has stolen. Right under the nose of Poseidon’s High Priest Alaric, another wonderfully complex and dark character. The Warriors of Poseidon must track down the Triton before its power is misused.

As this is a paranormal romance, there is also a love interest. Riley is a social worker with a big heart and a special power of her own. When she’s attacked one night by preternatural monsters, Conlan shows up to help her. But he’s just as dangerous. They feel an intense attraction, but they have quite a few obstacles to overcome.

Atlantis Rising is a fantastic start to a new series. I can’t wait to read the stories of other characters along with the continuation of Atlantis… Awakening!

Atlantis Rising: The Warriors of Poseidon will be released March 6th.

The 2nd story in the series will be in novella form. With short stories from Alyssa Day, Maggie Shayne, Marjorie M. Liu (another new favorite of mine), and Meljean Brook, Wild Thing will be available May, 2007.

The 3rd story in the series, ATLANTIS AWAKENING, will be available October, 2007.

  1. Looks like another of those books, like Colleen Gleason’s forthcoming Rises the Night, that I would have to read in the privacy of my own home. ;)Sounds very interesting.

  2. LOL, Carl.. Yes, and I’d love to be there to see the faces of the cashier, if you picked it up in an actual bookstore to buy it!
So, would you ask Mary to buy a book with a shirtless man on the cover? Or would you just order it from Amazon, so no one would know you owned it?

  3. “Paranormal romance” – I could definitely go for that.

This book sounds really interesting! A lot of cool concepts about the Atlanteans, vampires and shape-shifters. Good tip!

And thanks for stopping by my blog.

  4. Oooh, thanks so much!! I’m thrilled you liked Atlantis Rising! I’m so anxious about the upcoming release of my new series, I’m biting my fingernails for the first time in 20 years . . . 🙂
