Halloween Meme

Taken from Carl’s Halloween meme:

1. What is your favorite work of horror fiction?
The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova.  See my review here.

2. What is your favorite work of science fiction/fantasy?
This one is hard as science fiction is my favorite genre. I’ll have to list several:

Area 51 series, Robert Doherty (Bob Mayer)

Rogue Angel: Destiny, by Alex Archer

Noble Dead series, by Barb and J.C. Hendee

-Most of the Star Trek: TNG books by Michael Jan Friedman, Peter David, etc.

3. Who is your favorite monster?
Dracula. I’ve always loved books and movies about vampires.

4. What horror movie gives you the most chills?
I don’t watch a lot of horror, but The Ring was the scariest movie I’ve seen.

5. Freddy versus Jason?
No thanks.

6. What is your favorite Halloween treat?
Most candy that comes in chocolate form.

7. Ghosts or goblins?
Ghosts. Nothing better than a creepy ghost story, especially this time of year.

8. What is your scariest encounter with the paranormal?
None. Though after watching The Ring with some friends and being left at my house alone, I had to watch Angels in the Outfield to get my mind on something feel-good instead of demonic.

9. Do you believe in ghosts?
Nope. Though I do like watching Ghost Hunters and haunted house shows on the travel channel.

10. Favorite Halloween costume?
That I’ve worn in the past: Rogue and Supergirl.

That would be fun to wear in the future:

Music Firsts Meme

Having last-minute, outpatient surgery tomorrow, so it’s hard to think about anything besides that. Also, may be absent from the web for a few days because of it… I’ll leave you with a pointless meme.

First recording artist you had a crush on.

Davy Jones from The Monkees.. I remember watching reruns of the show as a kid. Davy was just so cute, just wanted to pick him up and hug him!

First band you obsessed over.

I can’t say that I really obsessed over a band, but I did have pictures from Teen Beat and Bop on my walls back in Jr High… mainly of New Kids on the Block. Like every other girl.

First song you wanted to forget.

Waterfalls, by TLC. My roommate in college freshman year played that song on repeat… over and over and over…

Bonus First:

First song that you liked but none of your friends liked.

Probably anything by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.  I’ve always been in love with their voices and music.  And it wasn’t exactly cool back then.

Book Meme

Taken from http://bookfoolery.blogspot.com/, because though I’ve been reading a couple books, I don’t really have anything to talk about yet:

1. One book that changed your life? The Bible.

I can’t say any other book will even come close.

2. One book you have read more than once?  The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. I love re-reading these classics every couple years.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?

Since I’ve already said the Bible once, I’ll go with something else. Probably the Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas. It’s my favorite book. And it’s long, so I wouldn’t get as bored reading it.

4. One book that made you cry?

The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks. I believe I cried through that whole book.

5. One book that made you laugh?

Carpe Demon : Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom, by Julie Kenner. It’s a very fun and witty book. And the follow-up: California Demon: The Secret Life of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom.

6. One book you wish had been written?

More original Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis novels. I can’t get enough of those shows. I’m hoping novels catch on as well as they do in the Star Trek ‘verse.

 7. One book you wish hadn’t been written?  Just one? I’ll go with every book by Laurell K. Hamilton, past the first few in her series. Ick. Ok, so I couldn’t settle for one.

8. One book you are currently reading?

Everybody Comes to the Nightside (Agents of Light and Darkness), by Simon R. Green.
Staying Dead, by Laura Anne Gilman.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read?

How Now Shall We Live? By Chuck Colson… it’s taking me a lot longer to get through it simply because of the length. It’s great, but I have to take breaks.
