SciFiChick’s Best of 2011

This was another record-breaking year for me, having read 233 books in 2011. Several were audio and graphic novels, but the vast majority were traditional, full-length novels. Of my favorite books that I’ve read this year, the below list are novels published in 2011 and early 2012.

  4. Great list – Heaven’s Shadow has been on my watch list for a while (waiting for the paperback), and I just picked up all 3 books in the Deep Sky trilogy. Nice to see some love for the Star Trek novels, especially Kirsten Beyer stellar work on Voyager.

  5. That’s pretty much how I feel about TV too. As to the book lists, I ordered Hounded last night (your list reminded me about this trilogy which had slipped off my radar). I also have Heaven’s Shadow and The Breach but haven’t read them yet. I love Star Trek, but but have shied away from the novels in recent years. They come out so often and seem so interconnected I find them difficult to keep up with. Have you found possible to pick a few up here and there and enjoy them that way without being immersed in them?

  6. Big D – The classic series are still standalone novels and are easy to jump into, but you’re right in that TNG, Voyager and DS9 have had some major changes in their universe. But (unless you pick up a miniseries) the novels are still fairly standalone – yet things have happened (such as Janeway’s death) that may get mentioned without full explanation. I still haven’t read the whole latest Typhon Pact miniseries. I do recommend the Destiny trilogy though.

  7. Thanks. I went on Amazon to check out the Destiny books and noticed they are being released as an omnibus in March, so I pre-ordered that. I’m planning to pick-up Cast No Shadow and Indistinguishable from Magic as well. They had each caught my attention a few months back and got me thinking about Star Trek books again for the first time in a while. Children of the Storm sounds good, but I’ll need to do some catching up with Voyager first. Maybe I will check out the Academy series and the Department of Temporal Investigations as well.
