Storm Front is the first novel in Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series.
Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden is a wizard, named after the famous magicians. Harry is the only Wizard listed in the Chicago phonebook. With his trusty staff and unique characters such as Bob the Skull, Harry tackles tough cases involving paranormal crimes.
In Storm Front, Harry is asked by the Chicago PD’s Special Investigations division to look into some mysterious murders that couldn’t have been done by a normal human. When Harry deduces that the crime could have only been done by another wizard, he soon finds himself on the list of suspects. Deadly forces are at work to stop Harry from continuing his investigations. And to top it off, he’s being followed by a wizard to make sure he doesn’t break any of the seven laws of magic. With any slip-up, his watcher would be glad to turn him in to the White Council for judgment. The punishment for breaking any of the laws is death.
With colorful characters and a suspenseful plot, Storm Front was a tremendously fun and exciting read. Action, suspense, mystery, magic, romance, comedy, and other-worldly characters – this book has it all.
Oh so that’s what the Dresden Files are about. I don’t know if we get them up here in Canada, but that book looks like a great read!
This just sounds like such a fun read. I am definitely putting it on my list!
Definitely a tbr book, glad you enjoyed it!
This does sound like a fun read! I’m going to have to get this one. Thanks for the rec!!
Sounds like Harry Potter meets Columbo. 🙂
I love how he is followed and under threat of death cannot break any wizardy rules! Sounds exciting.
The Dresden Files are my favorite series. Harry is such a neat character and I’ve enjoyed every book in the series so far. I’m so pleased you liked Storm Front.
I read number seven in the series. It was the first hardcover of Dresden’s adventures.
I thought it to be not well written, with a plot that went this way, then that, for no apparent reason. It was sort of like picking up Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire without having read any of the other books first. Although I think the Harry Potter book would have been more coherent.
The one good thing I can say about “Dead Beat” was that occasionally Butcher showed flare. He showed promise of what he could do with pacing and dialogue.
I was at the book store looking for this tonight, but it wasn’t in stock. I’m going to order it as soon as I get home from this business trip.
And Angela, you’re going to have to add my book to your TBR pile. I hope to have a release date soon. 🙂
I love this series. It’s really amazing stuff, and Jim Butcher is a great guy.
Amy – You should have them up there too.. Though it looks like Christine had trouble finding it.
Michelle – Maybe instead of Columbo, Magnum PI.. he’s younger and better looking. LOL
Stewart – It’s too bad you didn’t like that one. I hope by the time I get to that one, it will seem more coherent to me!
Christine – You bet! How exciting!
I can’t wait to read this book! I went to Barnes and Noble last night to look for it and they had spot on the shelf where it would have been. The empty shelf looked so sad!!!
Oh, I love magicians and wizards! Darn! I don’t think I’ll ever grow up…
I love Harry Dresden! I’m looking forward to the series too, even if it turns out to be a ‘loosely based’ on kind of thing, Harry is enough of a favorite that I don’t think I’ll mind two versions.
Oooh, you’ve got some good reading ahead of you! Just wait until you get to White Night! Each one’s better than the last, but I’d really not recommend reading out of order.
I just ordered this from Amazon. Dying to read it!
