The Queen Will Betray You – Book Review

The Queen Will Betray You by Sarah Henning

Synopsis:
After a thousand years of political stability, the realm of The Sand and Sky is up for grabs. Four kingdoms, four rulers vying for the ultimate prize, sovereignty over the entire continent: A ruthless old king spinning webs, whose schemes encompass generations. A widowed queen whose only credo is all kings must die. A runaway queen whose unexpected return upends everyone’s plans. And a prince-in-waiting determined to wait no more.

Standing against them are a dispossessed princess and her stable boy love with a surprising claim of his own. Their only hope in the face of unspeakable betrayals, enemies hidden in the shadows, and insurmountable odds is the power of true love…

Review:
The Queen Will Betray You is the direct sequel to The Princess Will Save You, an homage to The Princess Bride. Princess Amarande returns to her kingdom, to find a shocking surprise waiting for her. And Luca, the stable boy, has his own surprise and dangers along his journey. Meanwhile, after her previous plans were ruined, Queen Inés plots a new treacherous scheme to claim more land for herself instead of her sons.

I enjoyed this sequel even more than the first! There was much more complexity and thrilling, political intrigue. Even Tallifer changed a lot and became more likable. In fact, he was almost another love interest. He was definitely more engaging than Luca this time around. Though Luca had his own journey, so Amarande was stuck with Tallifer through more of the story, as he actually gets to rescue the princess in a fun twist. I enjoyed every bit of this complex and exciting adventure. And events build to a shocking finale that left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next in this fantastic trilogy.
