Motor City Comic Con ’07

Saturday a friend and I drove up to Novi, Michigan for the spring Motor City Comic Con. This is always my favorite convention of the year. A there seemed to be more media guests than ever this year.
Disclaimer: I’m wearing heels in these photos, making me about 6’2″ at least. Some of the actors aren’t quite as short as they appear.

Robin Curtis, who played Lt. Saavik in the Star Trek movies 3 & 4 as well as a couple episodes of Star Trek: TNG, was the first guest we stopped and talked to. She was incredibly sweet and fun. We talked at length about dating and relationships. She acted as if we had known each other for years!
Here she is, looking as great as ever:

Dominic Keating (Lt. Malcolm Reed from Star Trek: Enterprise) was at the next booth. The British accent in addition to his flirting made for my highlight of the day. 😉

Imdb.com lists him as 5’9″… ?

Next was Connor Trinneer (from Star Trek: Enterprise as Cmdr. Trip Tucker and recurring role on Stargate: Atlantis). He may be standing on his toes for this one:

And Alan Ruck from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and many other great shows:

And speaking of flirts, Robert Picardo (The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager and Woolsey from Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis) asked if he could put his arm around me as my friend was taking our picture. I said, of course. He asks, “You are over 18, right?” And I say (with a laugh), “Yes, I’m 30.” He says, “Well then!” And proceeds to hold me thus:

Ethan Phillips (Neelix from Star Trek: Voyager) jokingly asked an inappropriate question. And moving right along…

Jonathan Frakes (Commander Will Riker from Star Trek: TNG) had the longest line, by far. All day. Here’s another of my childhood icons. I was extremely excited to meet him. I talked briefly with him about what his upcoming projects were. He mentioned some pilots that he’s working on.
Unfortunately, this one came out blurry:

Also in attendance, but were charging for photographs with them:

Louis Gossett, Jr:

Tony Burton from the Rocky movies:

Corin (“Corky”) Nemec (most recently on Stargate: SG-1) was constantly talking on his phone. Though we did go up and meet him:

Eddie Deezen from Grease:

And a few more guests that we didn’t get around to meeting:

Michael Gross from Family Ties:

Richard Anderson from The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman:

And the epitome of geekdom… Fans dressed up as different Star Wars characters did a little march around the room:

All in all, it was a very fun day. Just extremely long and tiring, since we drove there and back in one day. Over eight hours total of driving.

  1. OMG!! I’m green with envy! Totally green and grinning like a fool at work looking at your pictures! Those are so awesome, Angela. I need to go to this next year…

    Road trip!!

  2. Oh, you are soooo lucky! I would love to meet the actors from all the Star Trek spin offs! And Richard Anderson! Wow. How old is he now anyway? about 100? I thought he was dead!

  3. YOU GOT TO MEET THE DOCTOR FROM VOYAGER!!!! I am so close to Michigan I didn’t know about this. I love Voyager I loved the Dr., hence my weird crush on him that Wylie teases me constantly about.

Oooh I envy you. Also I loved Saavik when I was a little girl I thought she was so pretty.

*me green with envy* I’m glad you had fun.

  4. Olga – I know.. Richard was old back then. And he’s so tan now, he looks like a “toasted” George Hamilton.

Amy – I have a bit of a crush on him too. I was on cloud nine during the taking of that pic. 😉 He was chatting me up the whole time my friend was having trouble with my camera.
Well, you’ll have to come next year too then!

  5. It was very nice to see you and you friend there Angela. Glad you made it home safely with some awesome memories. Hope to see you in the fall ok?

  6. The Comic Con looked like a total blast. I’m with you, Christine – road trip!! Let’s get our calendars out…

SciFiChick, you look absolutely wonderful in those pictures. It figures that the Jonathan Frakes one is blurry. But he looks very pleased, nonetheless. Thanks for posting them.

  7. Memorial day weekend, San Mateo, CA. It’s Baycon time!!! Ok, we don’t have the super star trek guests, but we do have CA weather! That’s got to count for something. Plus I will happily show you around personally.

By the way, how tall are you?

  8. Jeff – It was nice to see you again too. I’ll probably stick to just the spring convention though. Too long of a drive 😛

Julia – I’ll let you all know about it ahead of time next year then. And yes, it figures my favorite actor turns out blurry. Guess we were nervous!

Gal – LOL. That’s quite a ways away, but thanks for the offer. I’m about 6′ tall.

  9. The first picture that you said… looking great as ever… HA!!! You both look pretty amazing! Actually you kinda look like you could be related.

Obviously you had one hell of a time! Looks like a SciFi Chickies dream!

And Amy – you have a crush on who? LMAO!!!

  10. Great pictures! I went the last day and hope to spend all 3 days at the spring 08 one. Thought it wasnt years ago it brought back good memories. Me and Eddie Deezen had a long talk about “Grease” and “Critters 2”. He even did the Mandark laugh from “Dextars Lab”. Michael Gross was especially very nice! But above all things, the highlight of my visit was the video me and Fat Mama (Nell Wilson) we had planned to do ahead of time: Singing the Fat Mama Theme Song!
Heres the link to the video too:

  11. Hey SciFiChick, I have a question about Alan Ruck. Does he charge you to get a picture with him? Im guessing not because you got one with him while you didnt with others. Im just making sure. Also this is strange, but Eddie Deezen didnt charge mt to get a picture with him.

If you could send me a quick email witht eh answer thatd be great. [email protected]

  12. Adam – No, I didn’t pay to get a photo with Ruck. Most of the guests don’t charge for photos, just autographs. If they charge for a photo, I don’t bother.

  13. is Dominic Keating’s flirting kinda inappropriate? That’s the one thing about him that turns me off. I’ve read in other things that he makes weird comments to strangers. Which totally bums me out because I’m crazy about him!

How was Trinneer though? of course I love him to death too. Is he a ‘perfect gentleman’ like he always says he is in star trek? 😀

I’m surprised about the doctor! wouldn’t have guessed he would be so…friendly ;p

    What did Neelix say?

  14. Clare – Dominic was definitely not inappropriate! In fact, I would have liked a little more flirting from him! lol

Trinneer was a lot better this time. Last time I met him, he was a jerk to most people and wouldn’t allow flash photos. He just came off as a diva. Then his show got cancelled. So this last time, he was a lot nicer and more gracious towards fans.

As this was a year ago, I don’t recall what all Ethan Phillips said. But he was very funny, and got along really well with Picardo.

  15. Aw, Trip! what’s gotten into you!

I thought of all people Connor Trinneer would be the nicest. But I guess the people that seem lovable in movies/shows aren’t necessarily lovable in real life. Good to know he’s gotten over his VIP-high though. I hope it stays that way.
