Ok so Amy tagged me for this meme the other day. You have to write a blog about 10 odd, facts or habits about yourself. Then tag 10 people and visit there comments and tell them they’ve been tagged… I’ll just let those who choose to, consider themselves “tagged.”
1. I have been a science fiction fan for as long as I can remember. It probably stemmed from my father, since I watched whatever he did. This was mainly science fiction, action, and kung fu shows.
2. On the other hand, there are very few dramas that I like. If the point of the movie is to make you think, cry, or feel sorry for someone; I’m not going to like it. And I’m going to absolutely hate it if it doesn’t have a happy ending. Titanic? Hated it.
3. I’m 6′ tall. I take after my father, who’s 6’2″. I remember when I was in high school, finally realizing that my father wasn’t the average height for a man. I was disappointed, to say the least.
4. For as tall as I am, I’m extremely afraid of heights. Anything past the third rung of a stepladder creeps me out. I love flying though.
5. I was a volunteer (unpaid) junior high youth pastor for a couple years. I began on my masters in youth ministry last year, but am presently taking a break from it. I hope to finish eventually.
6. I love singing. I used to travel quite a bit in college with my university chorale. Now, I only sing in church.
7. I never took a speech class. Ever. I was extremely quiet and shy in school. And somehow I got away with taking an extra foreign studies course instead of having to take speech in college! That’s right. I don’t mind singing in front of a large congregation. But I was deathly afraid of speaking in front of a small classroom.
8. Being in front of teenagers is the exception to the above. Or maybe I’ve just gotten used to it. Around teenagers, I can be loud, silly, and act like a kid. Around everyone else, I’m laid back and quiet.
9. I started drawing portraits in sixth grade. I was totally self-taught. I went to a small Christian school, where there was only one Art class option. As a sophomore in high school, I took a Saturday Portrait Drawing class from a nearby art school, taught by college students. When my teacher saw my work during one of my first couple classes, he told me that he didn’t think he could teach me anything. I had already developed my own style, and gone past his level of expertise. (Personally, I just don’t think that student/teacher was very good.) Thankfully, in college, I was able to learn a lot more from my art professors.
10. I have to sleep with a fan on. And if I hear any other sound, I won’t be able to sleep. If I’m somewhere without a fan, I can’t sleep. At all. It doesn’t matter if there’s complete silence in the room. I have to have background fan noise.
This is great Angela! I think I can only get up a rung or two on a ladder and I have to stop. The only way I can handle a plane is to have a book and read the entire time I’m in the air. If I were to sing I’d make your ears bleed, but I could do public speaking all day long. Too funny.
🙂 Great list Angela! I love to fly too! I just get super duper nervous at the airport, I feel sick and panicky… but once I get on the plane I’m calm and collected! Hmm, maybe I was a felon in a previous life?!? Who knows! But put me a bizzillion feet in the air, and I couldn’t be happier! 🙂
Christine – Well, I’ll call you to fill in for me whenever I have to speak in public. LOL
Vicky – A felon?! Do you sneak banned items like water bottles on planes too? .. I think that’s they dumbest regulation yet. I have a cross-country flight coming up, and I can’t bring a drink on the plane. Grr.
Singing is not the same as speaking, when you sing, it is a performance. The purpose and action/reaction are different. People are generally more accepting of a singers little flaws. Except on American Idol. When speaking, people are critiquing you and your point of view. It is more personal. And comments and criticism are more cutting. Excepting again, American Idol. God I hate that show.
I don’t know.. Singing is pretty personal. People may not like your style or may just think you stink. I know I’m overly critical of singers. Speakers, not so much.
What do you mean Titanic didn’t have a happy ending…Leonardo DiCaprio dies!!! 😉
LOL, Carl… too true! I can’t stand him either.
This was fun to read. That’s so cool about your background in drawing. Did you just start drawing portraits of family and friends one day?
I feel like I know exactly what you’re talking about. I hate heights but love flying too. I took a ride in a helicopter once and LOOOOOVED it. I hope to get my pilots license one day.
I’m also a self taught artist. My portraits are actually fairly similar to yours, but I don’t draw much anymore. I loved the book Drawing for Dummies it has some very useful hints.
I don’t sleep well without white noise either. That’s hard because my husband always complains about it in the winter. But I am such a light sleeper that I just tell him to shove it. Well, not in those exact words…
Iliana – I always loved drawing. But the first portrait that I drew was of Spock out of a TV Guide. I have no idea why. But we (my parents and I ) realized it was pretty good, then kept drawing from pictures I found in magazines!
SQT – So did you study art at all then? In the traditional sense?
I’m 5’11 and I’m terrified of heights too. Christine is also tall and she’s afraid of heights, what’s with tall people being afraid of heights. To weird.
SQT – So did you study art at all then? In the traditional sense?
Not much at all. I took one college class and didn’t really like it that much. I dicovered I didn’t like it when people tell me what to draw. In fact, I have drawn considerably less since then, and drawing was literally my life up until that point.
My daughter is just like I was. She draws constantly. Her teachers at school are already commenting on it (she’s in first grade) and telling me that she’s pretty advanced for her age. I hope I can encourage her development without stifling the desire.
What are some of the few dramas that you like?
BTW, Titanic rocks!!! 😛
SolShine – I liked The Notebook, Rudy, Hoosiers, Remember the Titans.. I guess they have to be uplifting.
I know what you mean about sleeping with a fan on I am the same way. My daughter thinks I’m strange I live in Minnesota and in the middle of winter the fans is on (not blowing on me of course).
I take a fan with me if I have to sleep somewhere else or I will never get to sleep.
