TNT’s original movie The Librarian – Return to King Solomon’s Mines airs Sunday, December 3rd. It’s the sequel to The Librarian – Quest for the Spear that aired back in 2004. I enjoyed it so much, that I had to buy the DVD when I saw it available at Blockbuster.
In Quest for the Spear, Flynn Carsen (played by Noah Wyle) is hired to be the new librarian at the New York Public Library, specifically for a mysterious room full of fantastic artifacts. His qualifications? He holds 12 bachelors, 6 masters, and 4 PhDs in various subjects. He’s a career student in his mid-thirties. Full of humor, action, adventure, and mystery, The Librarian is a swashbuckling comedy and somewhat a spoof of Indiana Jones.
Bob Newhart has a great role as the museum curator and Flynn’s boss. I’m glad to see that he’ll be in the sequel as well. Nicole Noone (played by Sonya Walger) was Flynn’s bodyguard and love interest in the first movie, but it looks like she’ll be replaced by Gabrielle Anwar as his new lady friend. Olympia Dukakis will also be returning as Flynn’s mother, who nags him about settling down.
The Quest for the Spear will air again on Sunday at 1 am on TNT, for those wanting to catch the first tv movie. And Return to King Solomon’s Mines will air several times on Sunday night starting at 8/7 Central.
And check out the Librarian website for info on the movie, a fun look at the Library’s museum artifacts, and a preview of the Librarian comic.
I can’t wait to see the sequel – I have it programmed into TiVo!
I’ll have to try and remember that as we didn’t catch it the first time around.
Yeah, thank goodness for Tivo and DVR’s, Amy!
I think you’d like it, Carl. And if you miss it, you can always get it on Netflix, I’m sure. Even tho you probably have hundreds already in your waiting list… lol
I just learned a valuable lesson about assuming. I always just assumed that I looked to see what blog you came from when you would comment on my blog. Turns out, I never did! Oops! Consider me a regular visitor now. 🙂
LOL, thanks, Kailana!
I hadn’t heard about these movies before. I’ll have to see if they are airing in my neck of the woods. 🙂
Thanks!
This is totally off subject, so please forgive me. But, I wanted to respond to your comment left on my blog a few days ago about you not feeling well. I think you said perhaps it is your gall bladder that’s bothering you? My mother had hers out this summer and it was the best thing that ever happened to her! She was having all kinds of undiagnosed pain/digestion issues. At any rate, I’m thinking of you, and hoping you feel better. God bless, B.
Yeah, my mother had hers out as well. I’m just not crazy about having basically the same type of surgery again so soon after my last one.. along with all the bills!
I just went to a specialist yesterday. And just got scheduled for some tests in a couple weeks, so he’ll be able to figure out exactly what’s wrong then… hopefully.
Thanks, Bellezza! I appreciate it!
I was so excited when I saw the commercial for the second one. I adored the first!
How come I’ve never heard of this movie?! I’ll have to look for the DVD.
Iliana – Probably because TNT isn’t really known for producing these types of movies. I think this will be the 1st time since 2004 that I’ll be watching the channel.
When I first started reading your post, I thought I had not seen the first movie. As you described it, though, I remembered it. Thanks for the heads up, I definitely want to see the next one. In fact, I’ll probably watch both.
Skipped over from BookGirl to visit.
I saw the first movie and will watch the second. I love Noah Wyle. He is a great Indiana Jones like character.
Is this something the kids could watch? Its nice they are getting older and are starting to like adventure movies now.
I will have to DVR those!
I, also, would like to know if they’re appropriate for kids. Mine have seen Indiana Jones and LOTR, if that helps.
The first one is definitely kid-friendly.. I just watched The Search for the Spear with the kids I babysit for tonight. They are 3,5,7, & 8. The only deaths were at the end of the movie.. and one was very cartoonish. And I put the 2 youngest to bed right before that happened. 😉
Great! I’ve got it set to record for tonight! Thanks for the rec.
I’ll tell the kids it’s sort of like an Indiana Jones!
Bummer, I just noticed that it was 1AM this morning that the first one was on so I didn’t get it recorded.
Oh well. 🙁
I’ve never heard of this movie! It sounds like my cup of tea, but we have no cable or satellite so I’ll look for it online. Thanks for posting about it! BTW, books will be in the mail tomorrow. 🙂
I recorded this on the cable box thing that i don’t know how to work… i hope i recorded it anyway.
but I loved the first one, I hope the second is just as good.
Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!
Thanks, Nancy!
OK, I missed both of them, kinda because I thought they looked, well, dumb. But since you gave both such great reviews, I’ll definitely watch for a replay. Or I’ll head to the video store to rent them.
By the way, excellent portrait! (Not that I’m surprised!) If you’re ever bored, I have 4 cute kids… 😉
Amy – Well, the the special effects are extremely cheesy.. it’s a made-for-tv movie, after all. But I love the humor, and it’s just a fun movie. I think you’d like it.
And yes.. If you ever want to send me some high quality pics via email, I can do some sketches for my old roomie of her super cute kids!
Oh dang, I missed it. I watched some History Channel show on Volcanos.
Well, I’m sure TNT will be airing it again later this week.
I too enjoyed “The Librarian” although I have yet to view the sequel. I’m a sucker for movies where intelligence is rewarded and glorified.
